Everyday Hero in a Safety Vest

What is going on? Oh, no, we’ve lost electricity. I wonder how long it will be off? I had tried the kitchen lights, then the bathroom lights and then the living room.

I had been procrastinating. I need to work on some of the tedious parts of getting my book ready for publication. After working hard all week as a guest (substitute) teacher, all I wanted to on a Saturday is relax. But I also wanted to get the book done.

Now, this could be another obstacle.

I wanted to go to the neighbors to find out if they had lost electricity. I jumped in the shower, got dressed and went outside.

Sharing and Caring For Others ~ A Tribute to My Mom

On this Mother’s Day, I’m thinking the amazing impact my mom had on me in shaping the direction of my life. Her example of sharing and caring for others, inspires me to this day.

One of my earliest memories is  of her teaching women to read in what is now the Republic of Congo, Africa. She let me come alongside her and had me go to individual women to help them learn to read.

Give Thanks For Small Acts of Kindness

Yesterday when I shopped in our local grocery store, right when I needed something. a sales clerk rounded the corner and asked, “Are you finding everything?”

I smiled, “You appeared at the right time because I’m actually looking for. . .” and I told her what I needed.

She immediately said, “Well this is over here. I’ll take you there,” Then she told me where the other item was. After I finished with the first one and walked into the main aisle, she came out to make sure I got to the right place for the second item.

Ageless Beauty

“What is your name?” She smiled at me as I sat down my plate at the table to eat my lunch. I glanced over to the booth next to me and saw an elderly woman smiling at me.

“My name is Sharon,” I walked over to her booth thinking she must know me.

“My name is Marilyn,” she smiled at me. I realized when I arrived over there that I didn’t know her but to be gracious I went along with her.

“Good to see you!”

“I used to own a dress shop downtown so that must be where I know you from.”
