Does God Listen When You Whine?

“I miss my mommy!” She snuggled up to me to me on a bench at the pre-K playground.

“I put my arm around her as I empathized with her, “I understand you miss your mommy.”

“My Grandma came for lunch today,” she shared.

“Good, I’m glad you got to have lunch with your grandma.” I had an assignment as a substitute teacher at pre-K for the day. They invited the parents or grandparents to come have lunch with the children.

“I want to go home now. I miss my mommy.” She shared in a plaintive voice as she leaned her head against my shoulder.

My Father Gave His Daughter the Best Gift

My father gave me the best gift a father could give to a daughter.

To this day, people benefit from his decision to use his gifts, talents, and abilities to care for others. A man I have never met, wept on the phone when he talked to me. He wept out of gratitude for what my father had done for him and his tribe.

Over 60 years ago, my father heard the voice of God. In obedience to God’s voice, he took his young wife and two little girls into the jungle of Africa. The people there nicknamed them Mama and Papa Obedience.

Children Are A Gift No Matter How They Come

I saw a touching sight today. When it’s my turn to serve in my grandson’s Sunday School Class, I always enjoy the 4 and 5-year-olds.

We have two little boys in the class from serious abuse backgrounds who have been adopted. They’re making progress with the love and support of their adoptive family.

Today, the moment the dad came to pick up the boys, one ran to him and the other one looked up with a shout of joy, exclaimed “Daddy!” I looked at my friend, in time to see the tears spring to his eyes.

Into the Jungle ~ A Tribute to My Dad, A Man of Courage

I can still see the picture in my mind of my dad seated on a “kapoi,” the carrier four Africans transported him on into the jungles of Africa. He did not have the stamina the Africans did to walk for three days. The sweat gathered under his helmet and ours as we swatted the never-ending flies.

Mom tucked several loaves of fresh-baked banana bread into his belongings because banana bread kept longer than most food items. I caught a whiff of the aroma and I looked forward to fresh slices of the tasty treat later.
