He Created a Legacy of Beauty

“Mom, I know I am going to be leaving soon when I graduate from college. I have seen the way you light up whenever we give you flowers. I would like to create flower beds for you.” My son Alex and I stood by the lamp post in our front yard as we chatted.

He continued, “You could pick out the flowers you want but in addition to seasonal flowers, we can also plant perennials so they will come up year after year.” His excitement grew as we talked. I looked around. The trees had begun to bud and the soft green of early spring reassured us that winter had gone. It was indeed time to think about spring time planting.

A Treasure Restored

“I can’t believe it!” I heard a young woman exclaim as she grabbed the glass Christmas tree sitting on the shelf. “This is exactly like the one I broke that belonged to Grandma!”

I stood in the aisle at our local Goodwill store on New Year’s Day.  I had watched her reach down to pick up the glass Christmas tree. She turned to her young son and showed him the tree. Then she picked it up and cradled it in her arms like it was a long-lost treasure.

Her joy captured my attention so I smiled at her. “Well, this is God’s gift to you!”img_4807

What Wears On Us Can Create Beauty

One of the reasons I love guest teaching is because I get to go back to school and learn everything I didn’t appreciate when I was in school. LOL!

Yesterday, I taught 7th and 8th grade science and enjoyed refreshing my knowledge about erosion and the effects of it.

The creative shapes of many of our rock formations caused by erosion intrigue me.
If you want to take a moment to enjoy nature’s art, you can enjoy these photos.

Negative happenings in our lives, dealing with stress and the everyday things that wear us down can make us feel discouraged or irritated. However, something beautiful be created in us because of them.

Desires Fulfilled Bring Life

Today, I had a lot to do. I walked by my watercolors. My heart longed to stop and enjoy them. Most of the time I walk on because it takes time to get everything out and then put it away. Because of other demands with my work, those creative urges get repressed and leave an an unfulfilled longing.

However, today I decided to apply the 15 minute principle. I pulled out my little travel case of watercolors and sat down and began to play with them. I have taken drawing and watercolor classes before but set those on the shelf for years. Recently, I started going to a watercolor class again.

Nature’s Quiet Beauty Brings Wealth

Birds chirping. Wind gently stirring in the trees. Rich green everywhere I look. This is the nature walk I frequently enjoy along a creek that runs by our house. When I walk far enough down the road into a secluded section, the path becomes more wooded with trees lining both sides of the road.

When I used to walk, I’d often take my iPhone with me to listen to books while I walk. This made my walk for exercise pass more quickly. I felt more productive since I could absorb wisdom and knowledge from the books at the same time on my walk.

Ageless Beauty

“What is your name?” She smiled at me as I sat down my plate at the table to eat my lunch. I glanced over to the booth next to me and saw an elderly woman smiling at me.

“My name is Sharon,” I walked over to her booth thinking she must know me.

“My name is Marilyn,” she smiled at me. I realized when I arrived over there that I didn’t know her but to be gracious I went along with her.

“Good to see you!”

“I used to own a dress shop downtown so that must be where I know you from.”
